Night Horrors
Night Horrors
Children, in an attempt to reason with their reality will develop entities that take up residence in some of the safest places in their environment. These are called night horrors. They are actual manifestations that exist only in their reality and usually only for the first 8 years of life starting at age 2. They are split into 5 most commonly identified locations and have a specific purpose for tormenting the creator. These locations are typically: under the bed, in the closet, in a corner in the basement, behind you on the stairs, just behind the shower curtain. Note that these vary regionally due to the lack of certain elements based on cultural differences and surroundings. Some locations like in a corner in the basement could be substituted for an area like, nestled between two trees by the rocks.
Under the Bed Demon
The most common location horror induced entity globally is found under the bed. This entity, known for lurking in the deepest shadows beneath your mattress is popular for grabbing ankles, poking or bumping the back of the creator through the mattress, subtly shaking the bed or even just heavy breathing noises. The main cause for the Under the Bead Demon is the subconscious trying to alert the conscious mind of an ever growing dust and allergy accumulation. Under the bed is known for collecting the most dust, mites, dirt and allergies due to its lack of accessibility with a broom or vacuum. As the detritus collects, the mind of the subject becomes more aware of the demon. It's pestering and terror will increase until the area is cleaned, the child grows out of the fear or they are completely enveloped by the night horror and their mind creates a reason for it allowing to show it's self and kill the child. This is a very rare occurrence and typically only occurs when a child has an especially bad allergy. Many Japanese beds are placed on the floor and are somewhat immune to the Under the Bed Demon. This was a national solution to an overwhelming amount of bed related child deaths in the 1920's.
In the Closet
The second most common night horror is the closet demon. Known for dropping clothing off of hangers and shelves, hurried scuttling and scratching the back side of the door. It's presence is typically felt as an overwhelming, watchful shadow horror and can even form a shadow if the closet has an internal light. The purpose of the closet demon is to remind the child that they're keeping one of several things hidden or obscured from public attention. Like the under the bed demon, a dusty, messy closet can enact the manifestation of this entity. Although it's also been associated with deeper subconscious issues like bullying, poor diet or missing assignments at school. This night horror is one of the few that can manifest late into life and has been known to find its victims in the last stages of their life usually manifesting as a deep hidden secret that was buried and tucked far away.
Behind you on the Stairs
The feeling of being followed or chased down a flight of stairs is common and is entirely due to the stairs demon. It's purpose is counterintuitive, alerting the creator to use the railing or stabilize yourself with your hands in some way. When the terror approaches, the creator is usually panicked into a full sprint at a steep decline and almost never while ascending. Of the 12,000 stair related deaths per year, approximately half can be associated with the stairs demon. We know this due to frequent end of life reports and 3rd party statements of hurried stomping and screaming just before the final thud.
In the Corner in the Basement
Many basements are home to rodents, spiders, mold and the deadly cancer gas, radon. The basement is a foreboding place and home to the corner demon. Usually lurking in the darkest, deepest part of the basement, it's presence is here to make sure you spend as little time in this part of the home as possible.
